The Electrician is responsible for maintaining and improving plant facilities, machinery and control systems and ensuring a safe working environment for all employees by performing electrical maintenance and new equipment installations.



  • Operate within a multi-skilled environment to maintain the plant’s machinery and equipment, while improving processes to minimize disruption to the production line;
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment in accordance with standardized procedures;
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment including PLC and motor controls, safety relays and sensors;
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment including hydraulic, pneumatic, drives, bearings, gears, and cranes;
  • Work in compliance with legislated and company policies and procedures, and perform duties as assigned by supervisor.



  • Be available to work afternoon shift Monday to Friday, with flexibility for overtime as needed. Initial training would be provided on day shift;
  • Certified Ontario Electrician (442A/309A or interprovincial licence) with PLC and motor controls troubleshooting experience and technical knowledge;
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to troubleshooting equipment issues, preferably in a fast-paced manufacturing/industrial environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional team members;
  • Mechanical aptitude/interest;
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and working conditions;
  • Previous crane, conveyor, pneumatic and hydraulic maintenance experience is a definite asset.



We offer competitive compensation with increases provided according to our collective agreement. Our current pay range for this position is $28.58/hr – $31.75/hr. Shift premium of $0.75/hr is payable when working afternoon shift. Tools and uniforms are provided. Our benefits package includes group insurance benefits, company-paid pension plan, pre-paid legal, and disability benefits. Canam also has a profit-sharing program for all employees.


Physical demands:

The ability to stand continuously is essential with frequent walking and occasional sitting. The nature of the position will require the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (50 – 75 lb) to climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.


Work Environment:

Constant exposure to a steel fabrication environment and regular exposure to weather conditions, excessive noise levels and vibrations. Often work near moving mechanical parts and frequently exposed to fumes and airborne particles. Occasionally work in high, precarious positions and regularly exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
