Canam Group Receives a Steel Design Award for the BC Place Project
November 19, 2012
Canam Group won first place in the Projects outside Quebec category at the 2012 Steel Design Awards gala hosted by the Quebec chapter of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) for a project executed by its Structal-Heavy Steel Construction (Structal-HSC) business unit. Canam Group received top honors for the construction of the new retractable roof at BC Place, a 60,000-seat venue located in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Canam Group announced the contract for the construction of the world’s largest cable-supported retractable roof in 2009. The BC Place project was an extremely complex undertaking and the Structal-HSC team has the expertise necessary to successfully execute this and other projects featuring advanced technical challenges.
A total of 17,000 tons of steel components were drafted, modeled and fabricated at several Canam Group business locations in the scope of this project. Deliveries began at the start of 2010 and the stadium reopened in September 2011 in time for the Grey Cup Championship.
Congratulations to each of the Canam Group teams and all external partners who contributed to the success of this formidable project.
