Canam Group to Supply Steel Tube Transmission Towers for Hydro-Québec
November 16, 2016
Canam Group will take part in the construction of a 400-kilometre long, 735-kV electrical line for Hydro-Québec between the Chamouchouane substation in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and the Bout-de-l’Île in Montreal, Quebec.
The company will supply four tubular transmission power line pylons with three towers and their anchor cages, totalling 635 tons of metalized and painted steel components. Each pylon weights between 100 and 200 tons and the masts are 98 to 151 feet (30 to 46 meters) in height. The production will begin early in 2017 at the Shawinigan plant in Quebec and the shipments will start during the fall of the same year.
The use of three steel tube transmission towers is a first for Hydro-Québec. Furthermore, Canam Group is proud to be the first to manufacture this type of pylon and is delighted by this opportunity.
This is not a first contract with Hydro-Québec for Canam Group since the company manufactured four steel tube transmission towers a few years ago at its plant in Laval, Quebec.
