Canam Group a Winner at the 2012 North America BIM Awards
August 28, 2012
The construction of Investors Group Field, future home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football team, and Manitoba Bisons, the University of Manitoba team, took first place in the Steel Category at the 2012 North America BIM Awards. It’s the third consecutive year that a Canam Group project has won an award in the scope of this annual competition organized by software developer Tekla.
To execute the project, 8,600 shop drawings were extracted from the 3D models. The drawings were produced by the InteliBuild detailing team in Romania and then checked by the Structal-Heavy Steel Construction team in St. Georges, Quebec, before being forwarded to the plants to begin fabrication of the various components.
Challenges included a number of truss connections that were too complex to be detailed on paper. The Canam Group teams overcame this difficulty by exchanging 3D models with the project engineer of record in order to successfully integrate the connection details in the models.
At the 2011 North America BIM Awards, Miami Ballpark, the new home of the Miami Marlins, won first place in the Steel Category while in 2010, CONSOL Energy Center, the new Pittsburgh Penguins arena, was named the winner in the same category.
Congratulations to the different teams that contributed to this winning project!
