Canam-Heavy is Awarded Phase II of the BMO Field Expansion Project
September 8, 2015
Canam-Heavy, the Canam Group division that specializes in large complex projects, was awarded a contract for an undisclosed amount by general contractor PCL Constructors Canada Inc. for the construction of a partial roof over BMO Field. Located in Toronto, BMO Field is the home of major league soccer team Toronto FC.
Although the partial roof will leave the North-facing portion of the stadium exposed, its three canopies will shield spectators from the elements regardless of where they are seated. The canopies, the largest of which will measure 435 ft. long by 190 ft. wide, will be delivered in sections and assembled onsite. The roof design shares many similarities to Investors Group Field, which was delivered by Canam-Heavy in 2012. Located in Winnipeg, this football stadium is home to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.
Phase II of the BMO Field expansion project includes design-assist, detailing and project management services as well as the fabrication and installation of roof components. Deliveries are slated to begin in autumn 2015 and be completed in April 2016.
Last year, Canam-Heavy provided design, fabrication and erection services for Phase I of the BMO Field project, which added another 8,400-seat grandstand to increase the stadium’s total seating capacity to 30,000 spectators. Phase I successfully completed a fast-track construction schedule of less than six months in anticipation of a May 10, 2015 soccer game to celebrate the reopening of the stadium. Peter Frantz, Senior Vice President of Canam-Heavy says, “We’re excited to begin Phase II and look forward to collaboratively delivering a great outdoor experience for Toronto FC fans with our talented partners at PCL.”.
