Canam Receives an Innovation Award at the Regional Finals of the Occupational Health and Safety Awards

November 8, 2019

The Chaudière-Appalaches regional office of the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité au travail (Occupational Health and Safety Board) presented an Innovation Award to the Canam plant in St. Gédéon-de-Beauce, during a ceremony held in Lévis on Wednesday, November 6.

Canam was named Regional Winner for its chart tracking improvement projects in the form of a hockey rink. This highly visual table has replaced the traditional suggestion box, resulting in a very transparent suggestion flow and employees even more committed to health and safety efforts.

“The guys really appreciate seeing the evolution of their ideas. This is a joint employer-employee achievement, and I am very proud of that,” said Robert Quirion, Warehouse Worker and Chief Delegate, UFCW 501, at the conclusion of the project video presented at the ceremony.

“The skating rink project has made employees feel more involved in health and safety,” explained Mario Sarazin, Health and Safety Coordinator at the St. Gédéon-de-Beauce plant.

“We are very proud of our people whose commitment is remarkable,” concludes André Clermont, Senior General Manager at the Canam plant. “This award recognizes our efforts to improve health and safety, and is a very stimulating incentive to pursue our goal of Zero Harm.”

As a regional winner, Canam will represent Chaudière-Appalaches in the Major Business category at the provincial gala next spring.

Congratulations to the entire St. Gédéon plant team!
