First Piece of the Portageville Bridge Delivered
February 23, 2017
The Canam Group bridge division recently delivered the first piece for the Portageville Railway Bridge, which crosses the Genesee River in New York. The piece is a bottom chord box section of an arch truss.
The piece weighed 93,500 pounds, measured 53 feet, 6 inches (16 metres) in length and with the shop bolted gusset plates, the height of the piece reached 11 feet, 4 inches (3.5 metres).
The box, that was welded and painted inside and outside, was shop fabricated using a progressive assembly procedure to properly meet the fabrication geometry and ensure proper field adjustment. Installation of the 3,900 tons of Canam steel components will be completed in summer 2017.
