Third Swing Bridge Project in Ontario
November 29, 2017
Canam-Bridges won the contract for fabricating and installing steel components that will be used to replace the Brighton Road swing bridge on the Trent-Severn Waterway in Ontario. This bridge spans the Murray Canal on County Road 64 and connects the municipalities of Prince Edward County with Quinte West. This is Canam’s third swing bridge project in Ontario, after replacing the Hastings Bridge in 2016 and the Kingston Mills Bridge in 2017.
The current bridge is 47.4 meters long and will be replaced by a swing bridge with increased load capacity and no restrictions for emergency and service vehicles. Canam will supply seven metalized and painted orthotropic steel deck panels, and Canam’s subsidiary St. Lawrence Erectors will install them. This project has a very tight schedule, since the bridge must be completed by May 2018.
